I simply cannot get enough of off the rails translations. I occasionally work with people in Japan and France, and I sincerely hope that they laugh as hard as we do when the translation apps fail us. One of my favorites was when my contact in Japan had not been able to locate an item she was supposed to give to me while I was visiting. She sent it later with a note accompanying it that said "I am sorry you are inconvenient..."

I have kept that note for over 15 years, and it still makes me giggle.

Glad you made it home! Hope you and Sir Milo can make the most of the renewed state of calamity and find your FOMO/JOMO balance.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but--if all goes according to our adjusted plans--we're headed into our last (!!) American Midwest winter.

That plate looks scrumptious and the translation is, as always, a delectable little treat.

Hi Shanna, glad to see you got back safely! Milo must be happy also! Oh if Andrew is still there, tell him he's in the right place as Storm Arwen is hitting the Hebrides right about now!! Forecast isn't too good for where I am tomorrow either! Climate change again! Well it has to be said, they're becoming more frequent than they used to!

So from Wednesday next you have yet more restrictions, getting bad again isn't it?! Wondering if we have to go into another lockdown here! My niece who lives and works in Italy is supposed to be coming over for Christmas, haven't seen her for a while. I hope Italy doesn't go into lockdown again as it did before. My sister & brother in law haven't seen her for nearly two years! Anyway, mustn't dwell on it, what will be will be as Doris Day used to say/sing!! Enjoy your time with Andrew, say hello to him and I hope next month isn't too exacting for you and there are no more restrictions! Tata for now xxx

Hi Shanna, Again, bem-vindo a casa!

I am all about the JOMO. I have completely lost the FOMO over the past couple of years. (Age and Covid.)

As far as winter goes...Oy! As much as I love Porto, it is M-F-ing cold here from late Nov-Feb.

Last winter was our first in our fab flat. (That has no heat.) EDP ran about 250-375 euros for the months of Dec-Feb. with our little space heaters. :0!

So, after doing some research and asking around, we are going to install wall mounted aquecimento, heat! Will not be cheap but I am told that it will cost a lot less to run and we won´t freeze our butts off all winter. Also, word is that Iberdrola is cheaper than EDP, so we will be switching over.

If it wasn´t for our adorable almost 15 yr. old, travel hating pooch, Jiver, we might spend the winter months in the Algarve. Maybe later for that!

And what will I do all winter besides writing and teaching? Studying Portuguese like my life depends upon it. Cause, it does! ;)

Best to ye, stay warm and happy!

I will spend the winter as I spent last winter, quietly, keeping my circle of others fairly small, masking when out. I have a few small groups of friends who meet twice a month to spin and knit, and a modern quilting group that still meets on zoom. The coast of Maine is nice in the winter unless it’s a blizzard; my dog and I are out every day. I also like Autumn, and don’t mind winter.
