Great article! A lot of it resonates with me as well. TODAY is my one year anniversary here! I didn't realize we were 11 days apart (and 2 years!). This article was perfect timing for me to reflect. Obrigada.

Muito bem!

Eu me mudei do Brazil para USA. I love USA, but I know that the Brazilian and Portuguese people are warm, helpful and cultured with art, architecture and history. They brought so many beautiful things to Brazil. May be I will join you, one of these days!!! Continue learning the language!!!

❤❤❤ You are such an inspiration, Shanna! You're not only living abroad, you're finding/creating community! That's a huge accomplishment.

Thank you for sharing your reflections. We're planning our move this year, and your reflections on the issues of the US ring true, and that sometimes living somewhere else is the right choice for our lives.

Interesting read. I'm considering moving to Portugal so I would love to hear from anyone who can share their experience. I'm a Chinese female from Southeast Asia. I'm in my 50s, know nobody from Portugal, love dogs, don't drive, am open minded and adaptable as I've travelled widely and lived in different countries for different time spans (UK, Canada, Germany (only 1 month), Thailand, Myanmar etc) How suitable would Portugal be for me?
