I’m still stateside and have never been to Portugal, but I’m hoping to be there in three weeks. Maybe I can buy you a coffee in person! All the best.

Have you been to Guimarães? I think that's an ideal "getaway spot." You can get there on a train from Lisbon or Porto, it's got public transit even though the center is concentrated, it's big enough that you won't run out of cafes and restaurants in three days, it's got wonderful surroundings, and it is far north so hopefully the summer weather is not too hot (I haven't visited in the summer). It has a tram up to the top of a mountain so you can work on conquering any fear of heights you may have. And best of all, it has paved sidewalks so you won't be going to physical therapy three times a week for months on end. (Which I am now doing.)

Hi Shanna, I do not miss hibernating from the heat! (Did that most of my life in Denver and L.A.) It has been a beautiful and cool summer here in Porto. Sorry it was not for you but remember, grit is everywhere. Earth is gritty! At the same time we are contemplating a place to go when the rain sets in here for part of the winter. I do not know what it would take for me to go back to the states even to visit. As much as I love my peeps there, I can not bring myself to even contemplate a trip back. I have nightmares about being back in the US and not being able to get back here! (Initial visa application wait PTSD!) In any case, we are so lucky to be here! :) It beats the alternative to be sure.

Hi Shanna, I enjoy your newsletter! Thanks for writing it. Is the photo at the top — the yellow house — yours?

Just think, if you where still in the states you might be working a little more and then looking to find a 3-4 day weekend for an August “vacation.” At least that is what it for me this year. Nonetheless, how would you compare a San Diego summer to a Setubal summer? I’ll try the Audio out later today. It’s currently too early for sound. Welcome back!

Hi Shanna, Guimarães, sounds lovely. Seeing family is important but the climate here is challenged. Please don’t let that keep you from spending time with precious family as we never know how long we have and who knows when the tide will change. I’ll be in Portugal shortly:)
