Shanna, Your pre- move strategy session with us made things so much easier. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a move to Portugal! Thank you for all you have done for us!
For us, a second trip back to Portugal to secure an apartment, NIF number, and bank account was essential. Saved us a lot of money since we did not use an attorney for this. And we got an inexpensive place to live with an ocean view in Gaia, where we stayed for almost two years, before buying the flat in Porto.
I wish I had not listened to an acquaintance who was living in Lisbon at the time who told me that you had to have a return ticket to the states. So stupid. Blew $2k on airfare we never needed or used. (It was listed as a possible need to have on the Portugal visa site at the time, which reads like stereo instructions! (Thanks Beteljuice. ;)
Totally agree with you on wishing that we could have moved here sooner.
I’d love to see an article on your take on the common phrase, “Age is just a number” relating to living in Portugal. I know this is a little off the wall but I feel compelled to suggest it.
Getting rid of stuff -- that's my problem. But hosting a museum of stuff in my apartment keeps me from making changes... like moving abroad. When I travel, I find that I can live well in a small room with just a tiny refrigerator, sink, and a few changes of clothes. I need to apply the same principles at home to make a move more than just a dream. Your life in Setubal is an inspiration and it sounds like a great community is forming there. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Shanna, if you or anyone you know orders a Hammer of Pressure, I think it’s safe to say that I am not the only one who wants to hear about it…

Hammer. Of. Pressure.
My gawd, the metaphor possibilities, and--indeed--none of them vegan! HA!

I'm glad you made it to Portugal and Setubal. You are a good guide Shanna.
I so wanted to move to Setubul but with my set low income and the tax rules seem to make it impossible.
