If you're anything like me, you hold strong convictions. You've thought a lot about ideas and ethics, carving out a unique set of commandments for yourself through experience, education, culture, and plain old trial and error. And I bet most of these standards you've set for yourself are hard and fast.
Wow, moving to another country sounds like it parallels the commitment to a spiritual life! As we begin to identify more with Spirit, who we thought we were starts to fall away. Moving abroad brings about new ideas of Self.
I believe that the only way we grow as individuals is by constantly checking out beliefs and what we stand by. As individuals who walk through different paths on our life's journey it is normal to change and have different beliefs and outlooks depending on the chapter we find ourselves in.
I am still in the process of making the move to Portugal and often find myself seconding guessing my decisions on just about anything, especially when it scares me out of my wits.
Don't get me wrong, I am not going to decide against making the move but at the same time it is a very scaring move for me.
This I find unusual as I usually embrace change and having moved countries twice before it just makes no rational sense.
Anyway I love your honest and down to earth posts.I find them a real breath of fresh air, in this crazy world we find ourselves in.
Congratulations on your new home and becoming a home owner once again.
Such a great and timely article! Having moved to Portugal as well, I've really had to make adjustments and change my mind and expectations on a lot of things. Luckily, I DID NOT have the idea that it would be all kittens and rainbows when I got here! But now I also will consider buying a property (in the future, perhaps) and just so many other things to think about and change my mind about. Yes, and IKEA does deliver! My whole apartment is just about an IKEA showroom (if it had less clutter!) - including the kitchen remodel.
